Person running during sunrise

Summer is here! Officially, the summer season runs from June 20-21 through September 20-21 and it’s one of the best times of the year to get outside for activities, travel, and relax. While certain household chores can’t be ignored, like laundry and washing dishes, maybe some of these tasks can be delayed. It’s summer and it’s time to have some fun.

At United Window Cleaning, we love summer. From cookouts to catching fireflies, baseball games, trips to the beach, and ice cream cones under the shade trees, summer is a great time to take advantage of the longer days and warm nights. We’ve put together a list of a few of our favorite things to do in the summer that are not cleaning.

Explore the Neighborhood

When the weather is cold and dreary, you’re less likely to get out and take a walk around the neighborhood. Summer is the perfect time to walk around the block, explore local trails, and visit the nearby community park. You may see new things and even meet new neighbors too. Local parks are great places for a summer picnic as well.

Get Together with Family and Friends

During the school year, especially for homes with kids of all ages, it can be hard to find free time to simply get together and hang out with family and friends. While schedules can still be hectic during the summer, there may be more opportunities for get-togethers at the local park, during the Little League game, or at the community pool. Is there a local festival or carnival coming to your area? Plan a meet-up there for more summer fun!

Vacation and Staycation

If you share your home with school-age kids, it’s likely summer is the best season to try and schedule a vacation. Vacations are the perfect time to visit a new city, explore a National Park, or simply spend time at the beach, lake, or a resort.

Maybe a staycation fits better? A staycation still means a break from the daily grind, including the cleaning chores. Turn your backyard into a mini-resort complete with frozen drinks, games, and twinkling lights to illuminate the summer night.

Volunteer in Your Community

Communities nationwide can always use a few more volunteers. If you’re looking to give back this summer, consider volunteering at a local food bank, the library, a nearby nursing home, or with an organization like the United Way. Volunteering can be a great experience for kids too.

Try a New Activity or Hobby

Summer is the perfect time to try a new activity or begin a new hobby. Maybe this is the year you learn how to swim? If your overhand crawl is perfect, start working on your backstroke. Try getting in at least a one mile walk daily and plan a new route each day to keep it fresh. Go for a bike ride or maybe get out those old roller skates.

We know adulting can be hard, filled with things you don’t want to do, but that you need to do—responsibilities, even in summer. But there are some tasks that you don’t have to do, in summer or any other season.
